1 1. A cultural influence I see every day are Hello Kitty merchandise (pencil cases, keyrings, etc). Hello Kitty originated from Japan, produced by the company San Rio and designed by Yuko Shimizu to be kawaii or cute. The actual kitty itself is a Japanese white bobtail cat with a red bow. She appeared in 1975 and is still being produced in many places. Now, in Australia, many Asian shops sell these types of merchandise to mostly young girls and teenagers, who use them for their designated uses and other creative ways.

4. In Indian culture and also in daily life, the colour red signifies love, power, guilt, sin and seduction. For Indians, it is also a symbol of becoming an adult. When Indians get married, they wear red and a woman’s hand is printed with red henna. A red dot is worn on the forehead to symbolise a married life. In Eastern culture, red can be a symbol of fire, the south, marriage, and many positive things.
5. I don’t think a sporting figure makes a better figure than any other famous person, because they can always get bad publicity just as easily as any other celebrity. Sporting heroes always seem to only get publicity when they are involved in some sort of scandal, and players who actually have good conduct are never mentioned except for when the team or player wins. My hero is Peter Facinelli, a very skilled actor who, despite his roles has not gotten much bad press. In his movies, he does his roles very convincingly.

6. 6. I disagree to the statement that there are certain sports that should be only for men. Women should have the basic abilities that are needed, just like men, and should be able to play the sport as well as the men should. Even if some sports are thought to be “men’s sports” only, women should not limit themselves to “women’s sports” and try their best at everything.
7. 7. I think the perfect father should be loving of his children but not so overprotective that he babies them constantly. Also, he should be able to respect for the needs of his children as they grow up, and not overly restrict them from experiencing life to the fullest.

10. In my opinion, Idi Amin Dada was a horrible leader who did not gain control of his country because his people wanted to, but seized the position of President while the current President (Apolo Obote) attended a meeting overseas. He did not have any respect for his own people and life in general, and had killer squads (officially named the “State Research Bureau” and “Public Safety Unit) hunt down those who supported the former President. Amin ordered that many people be executed, abducted, tortured and murdered, some of who were his own parliamentary ministers. As a leader, he did not do anything for his people, but for a while, was seen as a “charismatic African leader” by the international press. Overall, he was a leader who did not deserve to be one.
Lovely answers, Selina. I like your thinking about sports' heros and also your ideas about girls taking part in all sports. Your Idi Amin research is great. Pity you left out no 8? 9/10
