Goodnight Mister Tom blog work

Mr Tom Oakley has been a cross recluse for years. What has caused him to be that way? Do recluses usually have a reason for their behaviour?

Mister Tom became a recluse because of the death of his young wife, Rachel and his baby son, William. Goodnight Mister Tom states that "In his grief he had cut himself off from people and when he had recovered he had lost the habit of socializing.", showing that when Rachel died he lost the reason to talk to people and be friendly, and that he no longer wanted to.

Willie has never had friends when he comes to the village. Tell how each of his new friends helps him change and develop into a happy, confident boy. Why is Zach a perfect best friend for Willie?

When Willie makes friends with the children in his village, every one of them contributes into making "Will". George, as an older, stronger boy is like the leader of the group and shows that not all other boys dislike and tease him. Ginnie, as Carrie's twin, socialises with Willie a lot and introduces him to having a girl as an actual friend. Carrie bonds with Willie more and more after Zach's death, when Willie has learned to move on. They are both good friends to each other, filling the void left by Zach.

At the start of the book, Zach is almost the opposite of Willie. As a loud, healthy and confident boy, he teaches Willie that he has the potential to make friends. Being the class clown, Willie realises that not all children must be seen and not heard to be liked. After Zach dies, Willie takes on his "Will" side, and adopts many of Zach's characteristics and his expressions.

All in all, Willie's friends have made him from the timid Willie into the confident Will, which is definitely a change for the better.
